MONTESANO, WASH.  –  Sterling Landing, a popular undeveloped recreational site on the Wynoochee River, will reopen for fishing access on Monday, September 30, 2024.  The Port of Grays Harbor had previously announced the closure of Sterling Landing in late August following several public safety incidents and misuse of the facility.

“We are pleased to re-open Sterling Landing for fall fishing access,” shared Satsop Business Park General Manager Alissa Shay.  “During the closure, we heard from many users of Sterling Landing about how important the site is for fishing access.  We consider waterfront public access to be a core part of the Port’s mission, but we are counting on the public to do its part to help keep Sterling Landing accessible and open for outdoor enthusiasts and families by following the posted rules and reporting any misuse of the site.”

The Port requests the public’s assistance in reporting any vandalism or illegal activities to the appropriate authorities.  The Port plans to continue to work with Grays Harbor County, recreational fishermen and the public over the fall and winter to help develop a long-term site management plan.

Founded in 1911, the Port of Grays Harbor is one of Washington State’s oldest port districts and Washington’s only deep-water port located directly on the Pacific Ocean.  The Port of Grays Harbor operates 4 deep-water marine terminals, the Westport Marina, Bowerman Airport, Grays Harbor Pilotage Services, numerous public waterfront access facilities, and industrial and business parks throughout the County.  The addition of Satsop Business Park increased the Port’s properties to more than 1,000 acres of industrial properties and an additional 1,200 acres of sustainably managed forestland.   Strategically located midway between Seattle and Portland and less than 1 ½ hours from open sea, the Port of Grays Harbor provides businesses a diverse portfolio of facilities. More information on the Port of Grays Harbor’s facilities and operations is available at portofgraysharbor.com or satsop.com

Sterling Landing, off Devonshire Road outside of Montesano, will re-open for fishing on Monday, September 30th
